MHS Sports Report – 9/1/14

We hope that everyone is having a great Labor Day Weekend and was able to enjoy the extra day off of school.  Evan though we were out of school today, most of our athletic teams will be practicing today to get ready for the upcoming week.

The Pioneers are coming off of another great week of events.  The Boys Tennis Team beat Decatur Central 5-0 this past Tuesday.  The winning team was able to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to the losing coach.  It was a great night for the Pioneers and also for a great cause.  The Girls Golf Team won 3-way match over Decatur Central and Franklin on Wednesday.  Olivia Roberts and Paige McGraw led the way with 47’s.  The Girls Golf Team improved to 2-0 in the Mid-State Conference with a 3-1 win over Franklin.  Liz Allen, Mackenzie Sims and Olivia Walton each scored goals for the Pioneers.  The Boys Soccer Team opened up Mid-State Conference play with a 3-2 win over Franklin.  The Pioneers scored a goal with 1:28 left in the game to break the tie and take the game.  Goals were scored by Michael Eineman, Alex Walters, and Xzavier Amones.  The Varsity Football Team traveled to Gary on Friday night to take on Bowman Academy at Gary Westside HS.  After a lengthy lightning delay (1:30), the Pioneers took control of the game early in route to a 46-0 win.  The Pioneers are now 1-1 on the season.  Their defense has only given up 7 points in 2 games.

We would like to thank all of the parents, students and fans for all of their support to start the season.  We have had great crowds at each event and we have traveled well to the away contests.  Your positive support has a direct impact on the performance of our teams.  Thank you!
