Breast Cancer Awareness Week at MHS

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the American Cancer Society (ACS).  This coming week (10/6-10/10) we will be have a multiple activities to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise money for the ACS.  Over the course of the week, students will hear announcements over the PA with information on cancer prevention.  We will also have a pink dress up day on Wednesday, October 8th.  Also during the week, the students will be able to purchase pink bracelets and that money will go directly to the ACS for Breast Cancer Research.  With these activities, we will have class competitions that will award them spirit points for Winter Homecoming in January.  The class the purchases the most bracelets will be awarded spirit points by Mrs. Selby.  On Wednesday’s Pink Dress-up day, the 2 best dressed students will receive a ticket to the football game and get spirit points for their class.  They will meet Mrs. Selby in front of the Guidance Office that morning for the contest.  We think this will be another exciting week at MHS leading up to Fall Break.

On Friday night (October 10th), we will be having our annual Pink Game.  This is partnered with the ACS and the NFL as part of the “A Crucial Catch” campaign that is intended to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise money for breast cancer research.  Please click on the LINK to see more information regarding this program.  For our Football game on 10/10 vs Martinsville, we would like to encourage all of the fans to wear pink to the game in support of this cause.  We would also like to recognize any breast cancer survivors that we have in attendance at the game.  That presentation will take place between the 1st and 2nd quarters.  We will invite all breast cancer survivors to go to the east side of the football field during the 1st quarter and meet at the high jump area.  Also that night, we will be selling pink bracelets at each admission gate and our student-athletes will be coming around at half-time to pass buckets for donations.  Last year, MHS was able to raise almost $1600 for breast cancer research.  We hope that we will be able to surpass that amount this coming year.

We hope that you will be able to come out to watch the game and support this great cause.
