MHS Sports Report – 2/2/15

We had another great week of athletics at MHS!

The Lady Pioneer Basketball team beat Terre Haute South (74-34) last Tuesday and Whiteland (56-48) on Friday.  With the win over Whiteland, the Pioneers finished 6-0 in the conference and are the 2015 Mid-State Conference Champions.  The Lady Pioneers will be playing in their final home game of the season this Thursday.  They will be hosting Southport.  The JV game is scheduled to start at 6pm with varsity to follow.  Also, the Sectional draw was released on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers will play Avon in the first round.  They are scheduled to play at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 11th.

The Pioneer Wrestlers were in action at Sectionals on Saturday.  They had 4 Sectional Champions (Brody Boles, Mitch Anderson, Christian Warren, and Randy Scott).  Andrew Sanders also advanced to the Regional with his 4th place finish.  The Pioneers finished 5th overall as a team.  Those 5 wrestlers will be wrestling in the Regional next Saturday here at MHS.  Wrestling will start at 9am that day.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team is also coming off a great weekend.  On Friday, the Pioneers beat Whiteland 75-60 to move to 3-1 in conference play.  Then on Saturday, they were on the road at Connersville.  The Pioneers battled back from a half-time deficit to beat the Spartans 44-36.  This week they have two big games.  On Friday, they will be on the road at Martinsville.  The JV/9th game starts at 6pm with varsity to follow.  The Artesians are currently undefeated in the conference.  This will be a big game for the Pioneers.  Then on Saturday, the Pioneers will be playing at Bankers Life Fieldhouse against New Palestine.  The game time is set for 7:30pm.  Tickets to that game can be purchased at the Athletic Office this week for $12.

The Swimming and Diving Teams competed this past week against South Putnam and Whiteland.  The Boys Team came away with a win over South Putnam but fell short against Whiteland. The Girls Team competed hard but fell short to both teams.  On Thursday, we were able to recognize the Senior Swimmers and Divers.  The 3 seniors will definitely be missed.  This coming week, the Boys will be at home against Beech Grove and Cascade on Tuesday night starting at 5:30pm.  Then on Thursday, the Girls will have Sectional Preliminaries at Franklin starting at 5:30pm.  Diving and Swim Finals will be on Saturday starting at 8am (diving) and 1:00pm (swimming).

It should be an exciting week of athletics at MHS.  We hope to see everyone out to support our student-athletes.

Go Pioneers!  #BeEpic!
