MHS Sports Report – 12/21/15

The Pioneers are coming off another great week of athletics.

The Boys Basketball Team went 2-0 this week with big wins over Decatur Central and Edgewood.  On Friday night, the Pioneers hosted Decatur Central in their first Mid-State Conference game of the season.  The Pioneers got off to a great start and never looked back enroute to a 58-45 win.  Leading the Pioneers that night was KC Earls with 22 points.  Then on Saturday, the team traveled to Edgewood.  The Mustangs shoot extremely well and the game remained close after the 1st quarter.  The Pioneers had a great 2nd quarter to extend their lead.  Edgewood made a good run late in the 4th quarter but the Pioneers were able to win the game 76-69.  The Pioneers were led by KC Earls with 25 points and Landon Harder with 21 points.  The team is now 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Mid-State Conference.  The Pioneers are off this next week as they prepare for the Lion Classic on 12/30.

The Girls Basketball Team had only one game this past week.  On Friday night, they hosted Decatur Central as part of a Girl/Boy doubleheader.  The Lady Pioneers got off to a great start and continued to build on their lead throughout the game.  The final score was 73-37.  The Lady Pioneers had 5 players in double figures:  Morgan Matt 16, Shelby Fink 13, Amanda Worland 11, Sam Walsh 10, and Taylor Baxter 10.  With the win, the Lady Pioneers are now 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-State Conference.  The team is off this week as they prepare for a tough holiday tournament at Columbus North on 29th and 30th.

The Boys/Girls Swimming and Diving Teams competed at Martinsville last Tuesday night.  The Boys are off to a great start this season has they moved to 4-0 with a 102-81 win.  Leading the Pioneers that night were:  Kylan Williamson, Ashton Johnson, Dylan Rogier, Thomas Weber, Jack Dillon and Taylor Johnson.  The Lady Pioneers competed well that night but came up a little short against Martinsville.  Despite the loss, there were many personal records set that night by:  Haley Wilson, Shelby Miller, Bella Crayton, Jenna Crafts, Kaitlyn Arvin, Julia LeBlanc, Cami Henry, Anna Memmer, Brooke Reynolds, Dalynn George, Sheree Brydges, MacKenna Reynolds and Arianna Linford.  Both teams are off this coming week but are preparing for the Mooresville Swim Invite on the 29th.

The Wrestling Team competed well at the New Haven Super Duals.  The finished 7th as a team and went 2-3 on the day.  The Pioneers lost two very close dual meets to Elkhart Memorial and Adams Central by at total of 5 points.  As a result, the Pioneers were 1-3 in their pool and finished 4th.  Then they crossed over for the 7th placed dual vs Maconaquah and came away with a big win 69-12.  The Pioneers were led by:  Michael Craig (5-0), Dylan Young (4-0), Spencer Cox (4-1), Ethan Wymer (4-1), Jake Hawkins (4-1) and Dane Smith (4-1).  The Pioneers have a dual meet record 7-10 on the year.  The varsity team is off this week as they prepare to host 23-team Mooresville Holiday Classic on the 29th and 30th.
