MHS Sports Report – 1/11/16

All of the winter sports are back in full swing after Winter Break.  All of the teams competed this past week and will have a busy week this week too.

The Boys Basketball played Lighthouse Charter on Wednesday night.  They got off to a great start that continued throughout the night.  The Pioneers won the game 93-49 and were led in scoring by KC Earls with 32 points.  The Pioneers traveled to Franklin on Saturday.  Franklin got off to a great start and the Pioneers were never able to close the gap losing 48-54.  They are 1-1 in the conference.  The Pioneers have two tough games this week.  On Friday, they will travel to Columbus North and on Saturday they will play at New Palestine.  All three levels (9th/JV/V) will be playing those nights.

The Girls Basketball team traveled to Franklin on Friday.  The Lady Pioneers got off to a great start but Franklin rallied back in the 4th quarter.  However, the Pioneers were able to hold them off in a 42-36 win.  The Pioneers are now 3-1 in the conference.  This week, the Lady Pioneers will be in action twice.  On Tuesday, they will travel to New Castle.  Then on Thursday, they will host Bloomington South.  Both days, the JV starts at 6:00pm with Varsity to follow.

The Wrestling Team traveled to Evansville Memorial for the Tiger Super Duals.  The Pioneers went 2-3 on the day.  They beat Heritage Hills and Tell City but lost to Castle, Center Grove and Evansville Memorial.  Wrestling well and going 4-1 on the day was Dane Smith.  There were a number of Pioneers that finished 3-2 for the tournament.  This week, the Pioneers will be hosting Monrovia on Tuesday night.  That will be senior night for the Pioneers.  Then on Saturday, we will be hosting the Mid-State Conference wrestling tournament.  Wrestling that day will start at 9:00am.

The Boys/Girls Swimming and Diving competed last week at Plainfield in the Mid-State Swimming and Diving meet.  During both days of competition, many Pioneers set new personal records.  Ashton Johnson won his 2nd consecutive conference title in diving.  Also in diving, Hunter Ongay finished 2nd and allowed the Pioneers to take the top two spots.  A number of Pioneers also swam well at the event.  Others finishing in the Top 8 were:  Thomas Weber (7th in 200 IM), Kylan Williamson (6th in 50 Free), and Julia LeBlanc (7th in 100 Free).  The Lady Pioneers finished 7th overall and the boys finished 5th. This week, both teams will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host Plainfield.

Here is the schedule for all the events this week.  Week of January 11
