MHS Sports Report – 1/18/16
The Boys Basketball team played two road games this past weekend. On Friday night, they traveled to Columbus North. The Pioneers led from start to finish and was able to withstand a late game run by Columbus to secure the victory 50-47. Then on Saturday night, the Pioneers traveled to New Palestine. The Pioneers jumped out to a big halftime. The Dragons rallied back but the Pioneers were able to come away with a great team victory 61-57. This week, The Pioneers will only be in action once as we host Plainfield for Winter Homecoming on Friday night.
The Girls Basketball team had their Tuesday game against New Castle postponed until Saturday due to weather and road conditions. After a slow start on Saturday, the Lady Pioneers played an excellent 4th quarter to beat the Trojans 42-38. Also last week, the Lady Pioneers hosted Bloomington South on Thursday. They led the game from start to finish enroute to a 57-52 victory. This week, the Pioneers will be hosting Bloomington North on Tuesday night. All three levels will be playing starting with JV and 9th at 6:00pm. That night will also be Senior Night for the girls. That presentation is scheduled to take place after the JV game. Then on Friday, the Lady Pioneers will host Plainfield. That night we will have a Boy/Girl Varsity doubleheader. The girls will be playing for a chance at a conference title. Plainfield is currently undefeated with two games to go. It should be a great game.
The Wrestling Team finished 4th at the Mid-State Conference on Saturday and only 7 points from 2nd. The Pioneers had 3 wrestlers in the finals (Spencer Cox, Wes Kost, and Dane Smith) and all of which finished 2nd place. The Pioneers were able to place all 14 wrestlers at the tournament and helped them finish in the top 4. This week, the Pioneers finish up their regular season by traveling to Columbus East for a dual meet on Tuesday night. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
The Boys/Girls Swimming and Diving competed at home on Wednesday as they hosted Plainfield. The Boys performed well and lost a close one 90-96. The girls continue to improve with young team but also fell short to Plainfield. On Saturday, they hosted a 3-way meet against Franklin and Greenwood. The Boys split beating Greenwood but losing to Franklin. During the meet the Boys 400 Freestyle Relay team set a new school record with a time of 3:44.85. On the team were: Jack Dillon, Thomas Weber, Dylan Rogier and Kylan Williamson. This week, both teams will be traveling to Edgewood on Tuesday and the girls will be hosting Beech Grove on Thursday. This Saturday, we will be hosting a Dive Invitational that will start at 9:00am.
