MHS Sports Report – 1/25/16
It was a busy week last week for the Pioneers and this coming week will be the same.
The Boys Basketball had a big win over Plainfield on Friday night. The Pioneers got off to a great start, but Plainfield battled back to take the lead at halftime. The Pioneers bounced back and outscored the Quakers 42-23 in the second half to win 70-57. This week, the Pioneers will be on the road at Whiteland on Friday and will host Connersville on Saturday. Saturday night’s game (1/30) will be our Champions Together Night. We will be recognizing the Morgan County Special Olympics team. Also that night, we will be having a Unified BB game during the halftime of the varsity game that will feature students across the district. It should be an exciting night at MHS.
The Girls Basketball had a big win over Bloomington North (60-24) on Tuesday night. That night was also Senior Night and we were able to recognize all of the senior players on this year’s team. On Friday night, the Lady Pioneers played a very tough Plainfield team. The Quakers had a great 4th quarter outscoring the Pioneers 17-9 to win the game. The Lady Pioneers moved to 3-2 in the conference This week, the Lady Pioneers will finish up their season. On Tuesday, they will host Terre Haute South with JV starting at 6:00pm. Then on Friday, they will travel to Whiteland as part of a Boy/Girl varsity doubleheader. Also this week, the IHSAA will have the draw for the Sectionals which will be held at Brownsburg.
The Wrestling Team competed once this past week. On Tuesday, they traveled to Columbus East and lost to a very good team. That was the last varsity event for the Pioneers. Now they will be getting ready for Sectionals. This Saturday, they will be hosting the IHSAA Sectional. It will include the same 7 teams from the conference plus: Center Grove, Indian Creek and Monrovia. This will be a very tough tournament and only the top 4 advance to the Regional. Wrestling will begin at 9am.
The Boys/Girls Swimming and Diving teams traveled to Edgewood on Tuesday to compete in a 3-way meet tonight. The Boys finished 2nd and were 2 points from 1st and the girls finished 3rd. That night Ashton Johnson broke his previous school record in the 6-dive competition. Then on Thursday the Lady Pioneers beat Beech Grove in a dual meet. On Saturday, the Pioneers hosted the 1st ever Mooresville Dive Invitational. This featured 46 divers from 10 different schools. Ashton Johnson and Hunter Ongay finished 1st and 2nd respectively to win the Boys Team Championship. Ashton also set a new school record for 11-dives. This week, the Pioneers will have two home meets. On Tuesday, they will host South Putnam starting at 5:30pm. That night will also be senior night. Then on Thursday, they will be hosting Whiteland in a dual meeting start at 5:30pm.
