MHS Sports Report – 2/15/16

Happy President’s Day!  We hope that everyone is enjoying the day off of school.

The Boys Basketball played Bloomington North last Tuesday night.  The Pioneers got off to a great start.  The Cougars made a comeback and got to within 1-point.  However, the Pioneers were able to play well down the stretch and come away with a 49-41.  The Pioneers were led by KC Earls who scored 24 points that night.  On Friday, the Pioneers hosted Martinsville in a Mid-State Conference game.  The Pioneers had a 1-point lead at the half.  The Artesians had a great 3rd quarter to take a big lead and win the game.  That night the Pioneers were led by Cameron Harris with 27 points.  That night KC Earls scored 14 points and became the 10th Pioneer to reach 1000 points in his career.  That night was also the induction for the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.  Four former Pioneers were recognized that night for their contributions to MHS.  Here is a LINK to the award winners.  Also last week, the 9th Pioneer BB team competed in and won the Mid-State Tournament.  They beat Greenwood on Wednesday, Decatur Central on Saturday morning and Martinsville in the Championship game.   This week, the Pioneers will play twice.  On Tuesday, they will host Center Grove.  On Friday, they will travel to Greenwood for their last conference game.

Spencer Cox of the Wrestling team competed at the Semi-State on Saturday.  He had a tough opening round match and lost 15-2 but competed the whole three periods.  This brings the wrestling season to a close.

The Boys Swimming and Diving team was off this week but is preparing for Sectionals.  This Thursday they will have their preliminary heat for swimming starting at 5:30pm.  Then on Saturday, Diving prelims will start at 8:00am with finals for both starting at 1:00pm.

The Boys/Girls Track Teams begin their season this week.  Their first practice will be on Tuesday after school.

Here is the schedule of events for the week.  Week of February 15
