MHS Sports Report – 3/28/16

We hope everyone is enjoying their Spring Break.  Our spring sports got off to a great start last week.  Both Track and Softball competed well to get their seasons off to a good start.

Both the Boys and Girls Track teams competed last Tuesday at Beech Grove in their first outdoor meet.  The Boys finished 2nd in 3-way meet vs Beech Grove and Heritage Christian.  Aaron Culver won the high jump and Ben Sharp won both hurdle events.  Also performing well were:  Aaron Edwards in the long jump and Chance Justus in the Shot Put.  The Girls won the 3-way meet.  They had multiple teams and individuals win their events.  Those included the 4×800 team, 4×100 team, 4×400 team, Isabella Haggard (3200m), Katie Wellspring (high jump), and Abby Karnes (pole vault – new school record).  The Lady Pioneers had many other athletes finish in the top three at the meet too.  Both teams are off until April 12th when they will travel to Terre Haute South.

The Softball team opened their season with a strong performance against Terre Haute South.  This game was originally scheduled for last Thursday.  But after looking at the forecast, it was moved to Wednesday night.  The Pioneers got off to a great start scoring 3 runs in the first and never looked back enroute to a 14-4 win.  Cami Henry was the winning pitcher and struck out 6 batters.  Maddie Bombei went 4 for 4 with 1 homerun and Gabby O’Riley went 2 for 2 with 2 homeruns.  The Lady Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 5th.  That afternoon they will open up Mid-State Conference play as they travel to Greenwood.

The Baseball team was scheduled for a scrimmage last Thursday.  However with the weather and amount of rain, Warren Central had to cancel the event.  The Pioneers will continue to practice and prepare for their first game on April 5th.  That night they will be hosting Greenwood starting at 5:30pm.

The Girls Tennis team was able to scrimmage Decatur Central last Tuesday.  It was a great opportunity to compete against another team and get prepared for the start of their season.  The Lady Pioneers will open up at home on April 5th when they host Danville starting at 5pm.

The Boys Golf team is continuing to prepare for their first match.  They will open up at the Hall of Fame Invitational which will be held at Rock Hollow GC on Saturday, April 9th.

With Spring Break all of this week, there will not be any teams competing.  Here is a schedule for the Athletic events the week of April 4th.  Week of April 4

Once Spring Break is over, all of the teams will be very busy. We will have events happening almost every night for the next 7 weeks.

We hope you have a great Spring Break!

Go Pioneers!  #BeEpic!
