MHS Sports Report – 5/9/16

The Pioneers had a great week this week.

The Lady Pioneer Tennis Team finished 3rd at Conference Tennis Tournament and came away with 2 individual champions last week.  Morgan Fitzpatrick remains undefeated on the season and won at #1 singles.  Renee Majeski played very well and won at #2 singles after coming into the tournament unseeded.  The Lady Pioneers also picked up a win last night against Speedway too.  This week they will be traveling to Avon on Tuesday and will be at home against Indian Creek.

The Softball Team improved their record to 18-1 with 2 good conference wins over Martinsville last week and a win over Eminence.  The Pioneers are now tied with Plainfield at the top of the conference standings.  This week, the Lady Pioneers will be hosting Whiteland in a 2-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tonight they will be hosting Terre Haute North on a previously rescheduled game.  Then on Friday, they will be traveling to Clay City.

The Track Team competed in the conference track meet last Tuesday.  They came away with 2 individual champions.  Maddie Vauters won the 1600m and Aaron Culver won high jump.  They had other strong performances by Julia LeBlanc, Jordyn Dinwiddie, Chance Justus and Ben Sharp.  This week, the Pioneers will be hosting the Morgan County Track Meet on Tuesday.  Then on Thursday, we will be hosting our first ever Unified Track Meet.

The Boys Golf Team played Franklin and Whiteland in a rescheduled 3-way last week on rescheduled date from the week before. The Pioneers played well that night and won the meet by 12 strokes.  The Pioneers were led by Jordan Scott, Jack Speedy and Matthew Chapman.  On Saturday, the Pioneers finished 4th at the Lafayette Jeff Invitational. Tonight they will be hosting Center Grove and Bloomington North in a 3-way match where they will play 18 holes.  This weekend they will be hosting their annual Invitational at Heartland Crossing.

The Baseball team had a great week last week. They beat Martinsville in two close games, Beech Grove and Covenant Christian.  With the win last Friday, the team has now won their last 5 games.  This week, they will be hosting Cascade tonight from a game that was scheduled earlier in the season. Then they will play Whiteland in a 2-game series.  On Thursday, they will host Terre Haute North.  Then on Saturday, they will be traveling and playing in the KV Klassic (reschedule from earlier in the season).
