Friday night October the 27th the 2-8 Mooresville Pioneers will make their second consecutive Sectional Semi-Final appearance when they will travel to New Castle High School to take on the 6-4 Trojans at 7pm. The Pioneers are coming off a Sectional 22 week one win over the Connersville Spartans 61-13 while the New Castle Trojans defeated the Richmond Red Devils 41-0.
The Mooresville Pioneers will look to slow down the New Castle offense who feature the second rated quarterback in the Nation (1st in Indiana), Niah Williamson who has thrown for 3812 yards and 43 TD passes in 10 games while targeting his favorite Trojan and Nationally ranked number one receiver (1st in Indiana), Luke Bumbalough who has 1751 receiving yards and 26 TD receptions. The Pioneers defense which is lead by Senior Linebacker Ryan Spangler (143 total tackles- 1st in 4A and Mid State, 3rd in State, and 16th Nationally) will look for an identical effort, which allowed the defense to hold the Connersville Spartans to just 13 points in last weeks Sectional 22 opener.
Junior quarterback Karson Goodman (1727 passing yards- 2nd in Mid State) and the Pioneer offense will look to continue to build on the success of the teams two game winning streak which saw them put up a season high 61 points last week versus Connersville. The Pioneer offense features Junior wide receiver Jon Eineman who ranks fourth in the state of Indiana and first in the Mid State with 1287 receiving yards and a reemerging ground attack lead by James Mabry (459 yards-12th Mid State) who is in search of his third consecutive 100 yard rushing game.
If the Mooresville Pioneers plan on playing for a Sectional 22 Championship they will need an entire team effort in all three phases of the game limiting mistakes and executing the game plan that is being put in place this week. Mooresville continues to get better each week and is starting to hit its stride at the perfect time of the season. The Pioneers are entering Friday’s contest with the confidence needed to perform at a high level but by no means are they overlooking their opponent.
The Mooresville Pioneers would like to thank all of the Pioneer Parents, Families, Students, and Fans for your continued support and we look forward to seeing all of you in the stands this Friday night at New Castle High School for the Sectional 22 Semi Final at 7pm.
