Boys Varsity Football · Week 4 Friday Night Lights: Greenwood (1-2) @ Mooresville (3-0) Kickoff 7pm

After spending the first three weeks of the season on the road, the Mooresville Pioneers (3-0) will return home on Friday September 7th and will host Mid State Conference rival Greenwood (1-2) in Mooresville’s 2018 regular season home opener, kickoff 7pm.  The Pioneers have taken advantage of the road, capturing three wins in as many weeks.  The Pioneers most recent victory came last week when they defeated Mid State Conference opponent, Plainfield 52-42 to improve their record to 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Pioneers fast start can be attributed to the hard work the team put in during the summer and their constant drive to improve each and every day on the practice field, weight room, and in film sessions preparing for the next opponent on the schedule.  The hard work that has been put in thus far is paying dividends three short week’s into the 2018 campaign.  Coming into Friday nights home opener the Pioneers have scored 126 points and have surrendered 75 all while accumulating 584 yards on the ground and 683 yards through the air.

Mooresville running backs have managed to get the ball into the endzone 8 times while the receivers have hit pay dirt 6 times, the remaining 4 touchdowns of the 18 have come on 2 fumble recoveries, a punt return, and a kick off return.  The Pioneers defense have risen to the occasion as well, making big stops when needed the most including 4 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries, two resulting in touchdowns.  The Pioneers “D” has 229 tackles in the 3 games,  156 solo and 73 assists.  To add to the 3-0 start the Pioneers kicking game is improving after a slow start in week one, 15 for 18 in PAT’s and a perfect 1 for 1 in field goal attempts.

The Greenwood Woodmen are coming into week four action at 1-2 with looses to Bloomington North and Martinsville and a win over Indian Creek.  The Woodmen are coming off of an 11-3 record in 2017 where they won their first Regional Championship since 1990, defeating Mississinewa, 34-27.  Greenwood will be looking to even up their record with a win and avoid a 1-3 start and an 0-2 start in Mid State Conference play.

Greenwood’s most recent win at Mooresville came last season in the 2017 Sectional Championship Game on November 6th,  59-32.   The 27 point loss that ended the Mooresville’s  2017 season just 10 short months ago will resonate in the minds of the Pioneers Players and Coaches but more importantly there is a bigger picture,  an opportunity to improve as a football team in all facets of the game and do it in front of the home town crowd.

Friday’s Home Opener is a huge opportunity for Mooresville High School as well as the Town of Mooresville Indiana to pack the stands in show of support for the 3-0 Mooresville Pioneers.  The support that has been shown in road stadiums the first three weeks of the season has been outstanding and for those that could not make the road games the show of support through social media and other avenues does not go unseen and is appreciated.  The Pioneers would like to thank the parents, families, students, fans, and Administration as well as the Town of Mooresville for all of the support through the first three weeks of the season.
