Athlete of the Week – Girls Swimming – Brooklyn Tidd, Freshman
There is a huge leap from middle school athletics to high school. The amount of athletic experience between a freshman and a senior is considerable. While the vast majority of the Girls Varsity Swim team was in quarantine and unable to compete, Brooklyn Tidd was called upon to step up and swim her individual events solo and represent the Mooresville Pioneers. While struggling with severe back pain and competing with swimmers that are preparing to swim in collage next fall, Brooklyn stepped up and in the matter of one swim meet went from green Freshman to experienced athlete. Brooklyn swam personal best times and did not shy away from the challenge. She is a credit to herself, the Swim/Dive team and, the Mooresville Pioneers.
Athlete of the Week – Girls Basketball – Ally Graber, Junior
Ally scored 12 points in the Lady Pioneers 63-40 victory over Greenwood. Graber hit 4/5 3-pointers. She also had a rebound, 4 assist and 3 steals. Ally continues to improve and is an integral part of the team.
Athlete of the Week – Boys Wrestling – Isaiah Pugh, Senior
Isaiah continues to be the leader of the team both by attitude and performance. This past weekend he was the only Pioneer wrestler to go undefeated. He recorded two falls and one decision. The decision came over the state’s number 6th ranked wrestler from Edgewood high school. Isaiah scored an early takedown and dominated him opponent from the advantage position and led 2-0. In the second period his opponent chose the bottom position and Isaiah secured a two-point near fall. In the third period Isaiah gave up a reversal, but earned the two points back at the end of the match to finish with the 6-2 win. In the last match of the day against Zionsville instead of receiving a forfeit, Isaiah moved up a weight class and secured the fall for the Pioneers.
Athlete of the Week – Boys Diving – Jacob Taylor, Sophomore
In his first two meets as a diver ever, Jacob has managed to win the 1-meter diving both times. Considering this is his first-year diving and his first year as a High School athlete that is an impressive feat. His dedication and focus in practice are apparent as his score increased by 10 points between his first two competitions. Jacob’s continued hard work is a credit to himself and to the Mooresville Pioneers.
