Edward Jones Athlete of the Week
January 4th – January 9th
The Mooresville High School Athletic Department is pleased to announce the Edward Jones Athlete of the Week Award for the week of January 4th – January 9th. of 2021. The award will be given to one female and one male student-athletes who displayed athletic excellence in all areas of competition during the previous week of athletic contests. Edward Jones is a proud to recognize student athletes for their athletic achievements each week while supporting the Mooresville Athletic Department. The Mooresville Athletic Department is honored to partner with BJ Pendill from Edward Jones to recognize the Mooresville High School student athlete of the week.
Athlete of the Week – Girls Basketball – Addy Shafer, Senior
Addy Shafer scored 5 points, had 3 assists and pulled down 7 rebounds in the Mooresville Lady Pioneers 43-35 victory over Mt. Vernon. Shafer also scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a 52-49 loss to Franklin. Addy is a hard worker on and off the court and encourages her teammates to do well.
Athlete of the Week – Boys Basketball – Miles McGowen, Senior (NOT PICTURED)
In two Mid-State Conference wins, a 53 -33 win on the road at Decatur Central and a 51-36 home victory over Franklin, Miles was outstanding. He recorded at double-double with a game high 20 points, (7-12 fgs) and 13 rebounds in the game vs. Decatur Central. He also handed out 5 assist, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Against Franklin Miles had a game high 14 points (6-7 fgs) and was 2-2 from the free throw line. Miles added a game high 8 rebounds and 4 assist.
Miles is a team captain and continuously produces for the team. He was extremely efficient in these two games, and plays a major role in our team’s success. His scoring and rebounding is at a high level of play.
Athlete of the Week – Boys Wrestling – Isaiah Pugh, Senior (NOT PICTURED)
On Saturday Isaiah Pugh won his weight class at the Mid-State Conference championship. Isaiah won his semi-final match with a fall over Decatur Central and then won in dominating fashion in the finals against Perry Meridian as he was ahead 9-1 before securing another fall. Isaiah also won his dual meet match against Whiteland on Wednesday by fall. Currently Isaiah leads the team in Wins, Falls and team points. Winning the match in the finals at conference also secured his 100th career victory. Besides his success on the mat, Isaiah’s work ethic is becoming contagious with his teammates as several of them have started to join with him outside of regular practice hours for additional training and conditioning. His leadership has helped guide the Pioneers to 19 dual meet wins and a 3rd place finish in the conference.
