The Mooresville Pioneers went on the road in the final week of the 2019 Indiana High School Football season and collected their seventh win of the season beating the Perry Meridian Falcons 35-14. With the win the Pioneers closed out regular season at 7-2
and 5-2 in the Mid State Conference. Friday nights ball game was scoreless through one quarter of play when the Pioneers reeled off 28 unanswered second quarter points to take a 28-7 lead into the half.
The Mooresville Pioneers offense opened the scoring in the second quarter when quarterback Kalija Perry completed a 18 yard pass to Brett Batchelor (PAT- Brock Bodell) to take a 7 point lead. Mooresville would score on a 1 yard Breken Greene run, a 29 yard screen pass from Perry to Greene, and would cap off the Pioneers first half scoring with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Perry to Brayden Evans (Bodell with 5 extra points) before Perry would find the endzone. The Falcons would score their lone touchdown of the first half on a JaJaun Dale 6 yard pass to Reggie McDonald (PAT- Nestor Gomez) to send the game to the half with Mooresville up 28-7.
The third quarter would see the Pioneers Breken Greene score his third touchdown of the evening on a 4 yard run (PAT- Bodell) which would prove to be Mooresville’s final points of the contest as they were unable to find the endzone in the final quarter. Perry Meridan would score their second and final touchdown in the thrid quarter as Gavin Hart would hit Aiden Warren for a 38 yard score (PAT- Gomez).
Defensivly the Mooresville Pioneers did what they needed to do, holding the Falcons offense to 14 points. Mooresville’s defense forced three Perry Meridian turnovers as Dom Oldham, Kamden Schmitt, and Dane Stevenson all had interceptions to lead the Pioneers defensive efforts. The Pioneers will enjoy the win for a short time as they will get back to work early Saturday morning as they begin to prepare for Sectional 23 play and a first round date with the South Dearborn Knights on Friday October 25th.
The Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Football Team would like to thank the entire student body, parents, families, fans, and friends for all of the support at home and on the road during the regular season. The Pioneers would also like to thank the Mooresville High School Administration and support staff for all their support as welll, it does not go un noticed and is so much appreciated. The team looks forward to seeing everyone in the stands next Friday at South Dearborn as the Pioneers take step one in defense of their 2018 Sectional title.
