The Lady Pioneers JV traveled to Whiteland High School this evening to play the Lady Warriors. The Lady Pioneers struggled to find rhythm in the first quarter against the Lady Warriors zone defense and could only manage 5 points. During the second quarter, the Pioneers found themselves down 10 points before Audrey Sutton hit two 3 pointers and brought the Pioneers within 4 points. Mooresville and Whiteland traded baskets for the last minute of the quarter and at the end of the half Whiteland lead to 11-17. During the third quarter, the Pioneers picked up the intensity considerably and managed to tie the score at the end of the quarter 23-23. The 23-23 tie was exactly what the Pioneers had worked so hard to do but they let that momentum slip out of their grasp in the first 2:30 in the fourth quarter. The Lady Pioneers were outscored 12-0 during that time and the Lady Pioneers never recovered. Despite cutting the Lady Warriors lead to 6 with around 1:30 to go, the Lady Pioneers never caught back up. Whiteland won the game 42-33.
Kalyn Bunch led the team in scoring with 14 points in the Pioneers defeat.
Tonight’s game ended the JV team’s season for the 2020-2021 season. The JV team ended with a solid 11-9 record after getting off to a really tough 1-5 start. Coach Franklin commented about the season, “The last game is always the toughest because there are so many positive things that you want say to the players but it just seems like you run out of time. I thank all of them for their effort this year and it was privilege to coach this team.”
