The Mooresville Lady Pioneers traveled to Cathedral High School for their thirteenth game of the 2020-2021 season. Mooresville and Cathedral were expected to play in the Columbus North tournament and today’s game at Cathedral was an effort to play that game. Cathedral came into the game with a season record of 5-7. The Lady Pioneers entered today’s game with a 7-5 record.
The Pioneers handled the scrappy Lady Irish defense well for the first quarter but failed to limit their own turnovers. The Lady Pioneers only scored 7 points in the quarter but still held a one point lead. In the second quarter, those turnovers disappeared and the scoreboard lit up with points for the Pioneers. Maddy Denny’s 12 points alone in the second quarter was 3x the entire Lady Irish scored in the quarter (4 points). With a comfortable 24-10 halftime score, the Pioneers looked to use the third quarter to put the game away and that’s exactly what they did. The Lady Pioneers created 7 steals in the third and took control of game with an 18 point quarter. All the Pioneers who dressed today saw action in the fourth quarter and the Lady Pioneers cruised to a 49-27 victory.
Leading the team in scoring for the Lady Pioneers was Junior guard Madelynn Denny with 19 points. Seniors Hannah Hurt and Addy Shafer also played a good game today. Hannah hit 3 three pointers to help in the victory and Addy scored 8 points to go along with 5 steals and 4 rebounds. With a team record now at 8-5, the Lady Pioneers next regular season game will be Tuesday, January 5th at 7:30 when they host Mt. Vernon (Fortville) High School. The JV game will be starting at 6:00 pm.
