For their nineteenth game of the 2020-2021 season, the Mooresville Lady Pioneers traveled to Plainfield High School for a chance to claim a third place finish in the Mid-State Conference standings. The Lady Pioneers came into the game with a 11-7 record while the Lady Quakers entered Friday night’s game with a 11-7 record as well. When the Lady Pioneers played their rival game with the Lady Quakers last season, the Lady Pioneers prevailed over the Quakers 59-32.
The Quakers came in the first quarter with hot shooting from the floor and jumped out to a 15-8 lead of the Pioneers. The Lady Pioneers went to the post in the second quarter and used Rachel Harshman’s 9 points in the quarter to cut the Quaker lead down to 4 points by halftime (22-26). For the fans of the Pioneers, the second half of the game against Plainfield was some of the best basketball they had played. The 19 points scored in the third quarter by the Pioneers outpaced the 11 points the Quakers scored and the Pioneers took a 4 point lead into the fourth quarter when the score showed 41-37 on the scoreboard. Despite the Lady Quakers shooting 8-9 from the free throw line and hitting two three pointers in the fourth quarter, the Lady Pioneers expanded their 4 point lead and held on for a 57-51 win. Much of the 35 points scored by the Pioneers in the second half were scored by Ally Graber, who totaled 14 points in the half.
The Lady Pioneers were led tonight by a trio of stars tonight. Junior Ally Graber scored 16 points in the victory. Freshman Rachel Harshman scored 14 points and Junior Maddy Denny scored 13 points. The team record now stands at 12-7 and 4-2 in the Mid-State Conference. The Pioneers will finish their last Mid-State Conference game next Friday night at home against Whiteland. The Pioneers await the IHSAA tournament draw on Sunday evening to see who they will play at the Terre Haute North sectional. The Varsity team will play again on Tuesday night when they travel to Terre Haute South to play the Lady Braves. The JV game will begin at 6:00 and the Varsity game will start around 7:30.
