For their twenty-first game of the 2020-2021 season, the Mooresville Lady Pioneers hosted fellow Mid-State Conference member Whiteland for their last game of the season. Tonight’s game was part of a boy/girl doubleheader with the Warriors. The Lady Pioneers came into the game with a 13-7 record while the Lady Warriors entered tonight’s game with a 5-12 record. When the Lady Pioneers and Lady Warriors played last season, the Pioneers prevailed over the Warriors 49-44.
The Lady Pioneers came out in the first half and just dominated the Lady Warriors and outscored them 34-14. With 10 offensive rebounds in the first half, the Pioneers kept constant offensive pressure on the Warriors that they just couldn’t handle. The Warriors hit only 4 shots in the first half and had numerous turnovers that were caused by the Pioneers defense. Ally Graber had 4 steals alone in the first half. The Lady Pioneers used the third quarter to finish off the Warriors by outscoring them 13-3 and taking a 47-17 lead into the fourth quarter. All the bench players got considerable time on the floor in the second half as the Pioneers coasted to the 59-33 victory. The win put the Pioneers in 3rd place (5-2) in the Mid-State conference standings and a regular season record of 14-7. The Lady Pioneers will now look to a rematch with the Lady Quakers in the Sectional 12 tournament hosted at Terre Haute North High School starting on Tuesday, February 2nd.
The Lady Pioneers were led tonight by two solid performances. Senior Addy Shafer led the team in scoring with 14 points. Junior guard Abby Young scored in double figures for the 5th time this season with her 12 points in the victory.
