The Mooresville Lady Pioneers hosted the defending 4A state champions the Lawrence North Lady Wildcats for their eighteenth game of the 2020-2021 season. The Lady Pioneers came into the game with a 11-6 record while the Lady Wildcats entered the Tuesday night game with a 14-7 record. The Lady Pioneers last played Lawrence North at the 2019 IHSAA Regionals and the Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Pioneers 42-22.
The Lady Wildcats came out with hot shooting from the outside hitting 5 three point shots and jumped out to a 20-14 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Pioneers used solid low post play and tough defense to bring the halftime score 31-30 in favor of Lawrence North. The Pioneers used a strong third quarter to take a one point lead over the Lady Wildcats 43-42. During the fourth quarter, the game flowed back and forth between a four and five point lead for both teams. At the end of the game, the Pioneers had a chance to pull ahead but missed their opportunity. The Lady Wildcats hit their free throws in the last minute and defeated the Lady Pioneers 56-54.
Freshman Rachel Harshman and Junior Maddy Denny led the team in scoring against Lawrence North. Rachel scored 18 points on the night and Maddy Denny chipped in additional 17 points in the loss. The team record now stands at 11-7. The Varsity team will play again on Friday night as part of the Boy/Girl doubleheader against Mid-State rival Plainfield. The Varsity game will begin at 6:00 at Plainfield High School.
