With three tournaments cancelled due to rain, the Mooresville Girls Golf team finally got their 2018 season started on Saturday, August 4th at the Greensburg Invitational at Greensburg Country Club. The 2018 team has added a whole new varsity line-up with the graduation of 4 players from last years Sectional team. Participating at the Greensburg Invitational for the Lady Pioneers were: Rachel Cutshaw (12), Kayleigh Crocker (12), Abby Weddle (12), Ellie Brill (10), and Hannah Sherby (11). Only Cutshaw and Crocker have Varsity tournament experience from previous seasons.
Leading the Lady Pioneers in scoring at the Greensburg Invitational was Rachel Cutshaw with a score 92. Head Coach Jeff Franklin was greatly pleased with Rachel’s performace at the tournament. “This was her first tournament playing in the #1 position and I thought she handled the responsibility of playing in that highly competitive position really well.” The team score of 383 and a 4th place finish were considerably better than what Coach Franklin was expecting at the tournament. “I had really no idea where this team would finish or how well they would play today. We were playing poorly before the rain came on Monday and I was just hoping that the good practices we had would help them find a way to get around the course in as few strokes as possible.” The most surprising score of the team was sophomore Ellie Brill’s score of 94. Coach Franklin commented, “Ellie has always had the potential to play this well every match but I was really surprised how easy she made the round look today. She had a couple of rough holes; but all in all this was an excellent day for her.”

Next match- The Mooresville Girls Golf team will play Mid-State Conference foes Greenwood and Perry Meridian on Thursday, August 9th at Heartland Crossing.
