The Mooresville Pioneers collected their third win of the week and sixth of the season on Friday night 14-1 at Monrovia. The Pioneers broke the game open in the top of the second inning scoring 7 runs to take a 9 run lead and did not look back completing the win in 5 innings.
Junior Jack Robinson made his first start of the season on the hill for the Pioneers and went 2 innings throwing just 25 pitches (22 strikes – 3 balls). Robinson gave up 3 hits, one run with 2 strikeouts and no walks in the win. Nick Wiley relieved Robinson in the third inning and faced a total of 10 hitters. Of the 10 Wiley struck out 8 and gave up one hit in 3 innings of relief.
Offensively the Pioneers had 8 hits lead by Tommy O’Connor’s 3 hits and 5 RBI, O’Connor also hit his team leading sixth home run. Dane Stevenson added 2 singles while Brady Huntsman and Brock Bodell added solo homers and Brody Bond singled in the ball clubs road win.
The Pioneers will be off this weekend as they get ready for a busy week of 4 games in 5 nights starting Monday April 19th when the Danville Warriors make a visit to Mooresville for a 5:30pm ballgame.
