The Mooresville Pioneers opened the home portion of the 2021 schedule on Wednesday evening defeating Martinsville 7-1 to move to 2-0 on the season.
Senior Nolan Bond threw a terrific ball game going 5 and 2 thirds innings on the hill for the Pioneers surrendering 4 hits while striking out 8 Artesian hitters. Bond was relieved in the bottom of the 6th inning by freshman Hogan Denny with 2 outs, bases loaded, and a 3-1 lead. Denny was able to strike out the Martinsville hitter and went on to throw the 7th inning retiring the side one two three (no hits/2 K’s). Nolan Bonds receives the win
and moves to 1-0 while Denny is credited with the save.
Offensively the Pioneers put together 9 hits on the evening lead by Senior Nolan Bond with 3 hits (3 Singles) followed by Senior Caden Bradley with 2 hits (single, double). Mooresville added two more home runs (Craig Perry and Tommy O’Connor) to bring their season total to 5 after two games.
With the win the Pioneers sit at 2-0 in the Mid State Conference and will host non conference opponent Beech Grove on Friday April 9, 2021, first pitch is scheduled for 5:30pm.
