The Girls Varsity team continues to get faster and stronger but fell short on depth against Plainfield. The girls kicked off the meet with a solid 2nd place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay consisting of Morgan Pierson, Isabelle Deverick, Ayris Mitchell and Cora Winegarden. Cora once again swam faster than the 50 free school record in her anchor leg to ensure a Pioneer top finish. Arabella Short and Ashlynn Malloy then took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 200 Free. In the 200 Individual Medley, Ayris Mitchell won 2nd with Sydney Gercak coming in a close 3rd. Freshman Cora ‘Joker’ Winegarden won the 50 free handily with a 26.72 followed by Emily Bombei in 3rd and Isabelle Deverick with 4th. Then in the 100 fly Ayris Mitchell had a strong finish to win 2nd place and Sydney Gercak winning 3rd. Alli Tabscott swam a personal best and was able to secure 6th place for the team. The 100 free was ridiculously close with Cora Winegarden just .2 seconds behind 1st place to take 2nd with a time of 59.21. Emily Bombei was right on her heels to take 3rd. The longest race of the night, the 500 free saw Morgan Pierson take 2nd and Hanna Sherby dropping serious time to take 3rd. Tea m Captain Arabella Short, Emily Bombei, Isabelle Deverick and Cora Winegarden easily won 2nd place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:51.80. The current Mooresville High School record is 1:51.33. It is just a matter of time before that record falls too. Taking 4th in this same relay was Ashlynn Malloy, Emile Tabscott, Linzy Tabscott, and Maddie Morris. And taking 5th place was a relay consisting of the girl divers! Sadie Mills, Mikaela Agresta, Kayla Gott and Kyle Strietelmeier helped the team out after completing their diving events and beat two other Plainfield relay teams. In the 100 back, the Pioneer girls took 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th with Morgan Pierson, Isabelle Deverick, Ashlynn Malloy, and Linzy Tabscott. To end the evening, Ayris Mitchell, Morgan Pierson, Arabella Short, and Emily Bombei took 2nd place in the 400 free relay.
In addition to helping out the team by swimming a relay, the girl divers completely dominated the 1-meter diving event. Sadie Mills took 1st with 266.15 points. Kyle Strietelmeier won 2nd place with 232.70 and Kayla Gott finished the hat trick in 3rd place with 218.20 points.
The Girls are back in the water January 15th in a 3 way meet with Martinsville and Edgewood at Edgewood.
