The 2018 Mooresville Pioneers IHSAA Football Season came to an end on Friday night with a 19-13 loss to the Marion Giants in the Class 4A Regional Championship game played at Marion High School. The Pioneers took an early 7 point lead when Karson Goodman hit Jon Eineman for a 75 yard touchdown reception (PAT good Christian Swigert) and lead that would last through halftime. Marion would take the opening possession of the second half and pull within one when quarterback Keshaun Taylor would score from 18 yards out (PAT No Good) to make the score 7-6. Marion would take their first lead as Keshaun Taylor would score his second of three rushing touchdowns from 19 yards out (2 Point Conversion Failed) to give the Giants a 12-7 advantage.
The Marion Giants would build on their 5 point lead early in the fourth quarter as Taylor would score his third and final touchdown of the evening from 6 yards out (PAT Good), Marion 19 Mooresville 7. Mooresville would answer to pull within 6 when Goodman hit Eineman from 25 yards out (PAT Blocked) but that is all the closer the Pioneers would get eventually loosing the ballgame 19-16 on a cold and windy evening in Marion Indiana. The Pioneers defense played a good ball game and kept Mooresville within striking distance throughout the contest.
Friday evenings loss in the Regional Championship game ended the 2018 season for the Mooresville Pioneers but did not diminish the accomplishments made during the regular season and into the playoffs. The Pioneers improved 7 games in the win column from the 2017 season where they went 1-7 (3-9 overall) to turn things around in 2018 and finish the regular season at 8-1 (11-2 overall). The club went 6-1 in the Mid State Conference and with it collected the Conference Championship, and to top things off are 14 and 3 in the last 17 games.
Mooresville kept the train rolling into the State Tournament and rolled off three more wins which culminated in a Sectional 22 Championship, the teams first in 14 seasons and earned them a spot in Fridays Regional Championship. The team made tremendous strides in 2018 with the class of 2019 setting the bar high for returning players. The Mooresville Pioneers would like to thank the parents, family, students, friends, fans, The Administration, and the Town of Mooresville for all of the support throughout the 2018 season, it is so much Appreciated.
A huge thank you goes out to the 2019 Senior Class for your dedication and hard work to ensure the Mooresville Pioneers Football Program continue to improve year after year, THANK YOU!
