The Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Baseball Team (12-4) played host to non conference opponent Nothview on Friday evening and dropped their forth game of the season 2-1. The Pioneers gave up and early run in the top of the first inning to the Knights and the 1 run lead stood for six and a half innings. Mooresville was down to their final at bat in the bottom of the seventh but were able to scratch across a run on a sacrifice fly by Dane Stevenson which scored Caden Bradley to tie the game at 1-1 sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth the Knights pushed across the go ahead run as the Pioneers were retired in order in their half of the eighth which gave Northview the 2-1 win. Nolan Bond was on the hill for the Pioneers in the loss, Bond faced 32 hitters throwing a total of 69 strikes, on 5 hits, one earned run, 2 walks, 2 HBP, and struck out 5. Bond’s performance on the mound was effective and efficient yet the Pioneers were unable to cash in at the plate scoring just one run in the evening.
Offensively Mooresville collected 5 hits lead by Dane Stevenson and Hogan Denny with 2 a piece while Craig Perry added a pinch hit single in the seventh. The Pioneers would like to thank the parents, students, and fans along with the Mooresville High School Administration for the support. The Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Baseball Team will be back in action Tuesday May 4, 2021 at Greenwood, first pitch 5:30pm.
