The Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Baseball team swept its second consecutive Home/Home Mid State Conference series with a 5-0 win over the Decatur Central Hawk’s on Wednesday evening at Mooresville High School. With the win the Pioneers collected their 5th consecutive win and currently sit at 4-0 in the Mid State Conference and retain the traveling “Trophy” through the 2022 baseball season.
The Mooresville Pioneers were provided an outstanding performance on the mound by Tommy O’Connor who kept the Decatur Central hitters off balance the entire evening. O’Connor threw six dominate innings striking out 12 on 2 hits 3 walks and zero runs. Nick Wiley came in the seventh inning, threw 5 pitches and sent the Hawks down in order to preserve the shutout and the 5-0 Pioneer win.
Mooresville was able to collect 10 hits in Wednesday’s ball game highlighted by O’Connors 2 run blast in the first inning his 5th on the season to give the Pioneers an early 2 run lead. The Pioneers added 3 more runs in the 5th pushing the lead to 5-0 which proved to be enough to secure the victory.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday the 16th and travel to Monrovia to take on the Bulldogs. Friday will see the Mooresville Pioneers Varsity play at 5:00pm and the Junior Varsity will begin directly following the Varsity contest.
