The Mooresville Girls JV Basketball traveled last night to Columbus for their first away game this season. The Columbus North Lady Bulldogs have recently been added to the regular schedule but the Lady Pioneers have been traveling to the school for over eight years because of the annual Holiday Tournament they hosted. The Lady Bulldogs JV came into the game with Mooresville JV 1-0 after a solid 58-33 win over Franklin Community on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers came into the game with a 1-1 record after a win against Southport and loss to Bishop Chatard last week. The Lady Pioneers JV are 0-2 against the Lady Bulldogs JV which includes a 19-21 overtime loss last season. On their first two possessions, the Lady Bulldogs quickly worked the ball around their offense and created two wide open 3pt shots that swished. Those first two possessions showed that the Pioneers would need to play some good basketball to match Columbus North's confidence to almost score. The Pioneers JV did their best to try and stay up with the Bulldogs JV team in the first half. But the game just kept slipping away from the Lady Pioneers as they turned the ball over, missed open shots, and never found an offensive rhythm. A 9 point halftime deficit ballooned to a 25 point deficit at the end of the 3rd quarter and the Lady Pioneers played out the fourth quarter working on their offensive formations and defensive transition. The game ended with a comfortable Columbus North victory over the Lady Pioneers 40-12. The 40-12 defeat for the Lady Pioneers changes the team’s record to 1-2 on the season. Leading the JV team in scoring was Bri Addair with 5 points. Columbus North will return to the court on Thursday as they host another Mid-State team, the Martinsville Lady Artesians. Mooresville will travel back home and prepare for Thursday’s game with Cathedral Lady Irish. Last season, the Lady Pioneers JV and Lady Irish JV played a competitive game in which the Lady Pioneers lost 33-38.
