The Mooresville Pioneers delivered an impressive late-game surge to claim a gritty 50–48 win over Columbus East. After falling behind 16–8 in the first quarter and trailing 29–18 at halftime, Mooresville responded with determination and tighter defense. The Pioneers outscored Columbus East 12–10 in the third quarter, setting the stage for a high-energy finish. The fourth quarter showcased Mooresville’s toughness and resilience as they exploded for 20 points. In the closing seconds with the game on the line, Kendal Price and KJ Barton found themselves trapped near the sideline. Instead of panicking, Kendal ripped the ball free with strength and control, creating just enough separation to rise up and bury a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer. The dramatic shot capped off Mooresville’s comeback and sent the crowd into an eruption of celebration. Mooresville’s balanced scoring fueled the victory. Kendal Price led the team with 13 points, scoring three two-point baskets, one earlier three, and going 4-for-5 at the free-throw line before delivering the game-winning dagger. Millie Allison matched that total with 13 points of her own, connecting on two two-pointers and three threes in a standout performance. Makenzie Holtzclaw added six points with three strong finishes inside, while KJ Barton chipped in seven points—including a timely three—and played a key role in the final play with his composure during the trap. Halle Moore contributed seven points, hitting two baskets and going 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. Madisyn Phillips added two points on a clean finish at the rim, and Niah Craig provided two points from the free-throw line. Beyond the scoring, the bench played a major part in Mooresville’s energy and momentum. Bri Addair and Mackenzie Garrett brought tremendous enthusiasm and intensity from the sideline, lifting the team during key moments and helping fuel the fourth-quarter push. Their support and energy were felt throughout the gym and played a big role in keeping the team locked in down the stretch. Mooresville’s determination, late-game execution, and unforgettable buzzer-beater give the Pioneers major momentum as they continue building confidence and chemistry. Mooresville will host Martinsville on Tuesday, with JV tipping off at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:30.
