The Mooresville Girls JV basketball team hosted their Morgan County and Mid-State Conference rival, the Martinsville Lady Artesians. This game the past couple of years has been on the Tuesday before the schools take their Thanksgiving Break. The recent JV games between these two schools have covered a variety of outcomes: lopsided victories for both schools and two very competitive games that came down to the last second. Tonight’s game will be the seventh game for both schools and the Lady Pioneers look to win their second game in a row. The Lady Artesians and Lady Pioneers have played a common opponent this season, Columbus North, and both teams were soundly defeated by the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Pioneers enter tonight’s game with a record of 3-3. Last season, the Lady Pioneers came up with a good win 41-26 in the John R. Wooden Gym at Martinsville. With a limited roster for the JV game, the Lady Artesians skillfully blended some Varsity players into the JV game and created an exciting game between the Lady Pioneers JV and the Arties. The Pioneers jumped out to a 13-7 first quarter lead after a slow start. At the start of the second quarter, the Arties players started playing harder and the quality of the team's play got better and they pulled even with the Lady Pioneers at 19-19 by halftime. The Lady Artesians guards took control of the game throughout the third quarter and built an eight point lead by the end of the quarter. With a 25-33 deficit, the Lady Pioneers JV team knew they needed to pick up their intensity and effort if they were to get back into the game. The Pioneers did exactly what they needed to get back into the game and eventually pulled away in the last minute of the game. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Artesians 15-2 in the fourth quarter and nabbed an exciting 40-35 victory. The 40-35 victory for the Lady Pioneers improves the team’s record to 4-3 on the season. Leading the JV team in scoring was Kenzie Garret with 11 points. Kaydence Straneva also chipped in 10 points. Bri Addair and Esther Brimmage scored 8 points each to propel the team to victory. The Lady Artesians get a full week and a half off before they take court again on Friday, December 5th against the Greenwood Lady Woodmen. The Lady Pioneers JV team will enjoy the time off and start preparing for their next game after Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, December 2nd when the Lady Patriots of Terre Haute North come to Mooresville. The Junior Varsity will start at 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity game will start around 7:30 p.m Mooresville JV 13 6 6 15 40 Martinsville JV 7 12 14 2 35
