Pioneers Go Cold In The Second Half

By Nate Bingham | Dec 19, 2025 9:17 PM

Decatur Central used a dominant third quarter to pull away from Mooresville and earn a 77–65 victory on Tuesday night. The Pioneers were sharp offensively in the first half, knocking down shots at a high rate to keep pace with the Hawks and take a narrow two-point lead into the locker room. Mooresville matched Decatur Central basket for basket through the opening two quarters, showing patience and efficiency on the offensive end. That momentum shifted coming out of halftime. Decatur Central ramped up its defensive pressure in the third quarter, forcing turnovers and turning them into easy points in transition. The Hawks outscored Mooresville 25–11 in the period to seize control of the game and build a double-digit advantage. Decatur Central’s offense was fueled by balance, as four Hawks finished the night in double figures. Mooresville was led by two players scoring in double digits but was unable to overcome the decisive third-quarter surge. The Pioneers will look to bounce back when they return to action on January 3rd, traveling to face county rival Monrovia.
