The Lady Pioneers Girls JV team returned to the court tonight after a three week Christmas Break to play the Bloomington North Lady Cougars as part of a Boy/Girl doubleheader with Bloomington North. Bad weather back in December delayed what would have been a home game for Bloomington North and the Athletic Department from both schools worked out a way to play the Boys and Girls games on the same night. The Lady Cougars will be joining the Mid-State Conference next season as a replacement for Greenwood who is moving to a new conference. The Lady Pioneers JV team has put together a small winning streak over the past couple games and looks to get off to a strong start in 2026 as they begin the toughest part of their schedule. Last season, the Lady Pioneers JV team defeated the Lady Cougars 51-29. The Lady Pioneers used its most aggressive defense in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to an 11-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bloomington North pushed back on the Lady Pioneers lead and cut the lead down to 6 when the Pioneers took off on a 11-2 run and stretched the lead back into double digits. The halftime score displayed the Lady Pioneers 21-8. At the start of the third quarter, the Lady Cougars pushed back as hard as they could and scored the first 7 points of the quarter and cut the Lady Pioneers lead back down to single digits again at 23-15. But once again the Lady Pioneers finished the last three minutes of the third quarter with a flurry of steals and points that pushed their lead back up to 36-15. The fourth quarter never saw a Lady Cougar comeback and the Lady Pioneers cruised for a 46-20 victory against a scrappy and very aggressive Bloomington North team. The 46-20 victory for the Lady Pioneers improves the team’s record to 9-3 on the season. Leading the JV team in scoring was Kenzie Garrett with 12 points. Kadence Straneva contributed an additional 11 points in the victory. The Lady Cougars JV team will return to the court on Thursday, January 8th when they host the Lady Dragons of New Palestine. The Lady Pioneers JV next game will be another Mid-State conference game with the Lady Grizzly Cubs of Franklin Community High School. The game on Friday night will be part of another Boy/Girl Mid-State doubleheader.
