The Lady Pioneers Girls JV team hosted the Lady Braves of Indian Creek tonight looking to restart a winning streak that ended at Franklin Community last Friday night. The five game winning streak that the Lady Pioneers had put together extended back to the Thanksgiving Break. Mooresville and Indian Creek have a history of playing each other that dates back to the early 2000s and again for a couple of games in the mid 2010s. Indian Creek is scheduled to compete in the IHSAA 3A tournament at the end of the season and has recently moved into a new conference with Monrovia, Lebanon, Beech Grove, Speedway, and Triton Central. Last season, the Lady Pioneers JV team defeated the Lady Braves 43-33. The Lady Pioneers JV team jumped out to a 23-10 lead by the end of the first half with strong defense and an up tempo pace. After Indian Creek switched their halfcourt defense to a 2-3 zone, the Lady Pioneers decided to slow down the pace of the game and patiently worked the ball around the defense probing for layups. The 13 points scored by the Lady Pioneers in the second half was enough to keep a double digit for most of the game and the game wound down for a 36-26 win. The 36-26 victory for the Lady Pioneers improves the team’s record to 10-4 (4-1 Mid-State) on the season. Leading the JV team in scoring was Alicia Crawford with 10 points. Kenzie Garrett and Esther Brimmage contributed 7 points each in the victory. The Lady Braves JV team will return back to the basketball court on Friday, January 16th when they host Batesville. The Lady Pioneers JV next game will be another home game and they will host the Lady Panthers of Bloomington South on Thursday, January 15th.
