Pioneers fell short in Dual Meet Against Plainfield

Despite falling on the scoreboard, the Mooresville Pioneers delivered a performance marked by record-breaking swims, significant time drops, and strong contributions from athletes across all class years in their dual meet against Plainfield. The meet opened with an impressive showing in the 200-yard Medley Relay, where the quartet of junior Danielle Gilman, senior captain Lylah Theriac, junior Aleah Marine, and freshman Keelan Chappell secured 2nd place with a time of 2:00.71, setting a competitive tone early. Mooresville’s youth movement continued to shine in the 200-yard Freestyle. Freshman Natallia Davis placed 4th in 2:37.45, dropping 1.36 seconds from her lifetime best, while sophomore Grace Perry followed closely with a 5th place finish in 2:54.41. In the 200-yard Individual Medley, freshman Keelan Chappell posted one of the largest improvements of the meet, taking 4th in 2:32.56 after cutting 3.96 seconds from her personal best. Junior Aleah Marine added a 5th place finish in 2:52.47, improving on her season best. Speed events brought more top 8 finishes for the Pioneers. In the 50-yard Freestyle, junior Danielle Gilman earned 3rd place in 27.36, nearly a full second faster than her previous season best. Freshman Isabella Henson placed 5th in 30.26, continuing her strong progression with a lifetime-best drop of 0.60 seconds. Mooresville claimed its first event victory in diving, where junior Mackenzie Pierson dominated the 1-meter six-dive competition, winning with a score of 239.30. The 100-yard Butterfly saw Aleah Marine place 4th in 1:22.96, improving her season best by nearly half a second. Momentum carried into the 100-yard Freestyle, where Keelan Chappell placed 3rd in 1:00.29, slicing an impressive 3.66 seconds off her personal best. Isabella Henson added another lifetime best, finishing 5th in 1:07.50. The highlight of the meet came in the 500-yard Freestyle, where senior captain Lylah Theriac delivered a historic performance. Theriac captured 1st place with a time of 4:57.93, breaking the school record and eclipsing her previous personal best of 5:06.53 set last season. The swim also qualified for All-American consideration, marking her 8th individual All-American time of the season. Mooresville continued to score in the relays, with Natallia Davis, Isabella Henson, Reese Aker, and Aleah Marine finishing 3rd in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay at 1:58.35. In the 100-yard Backstroke, Danielle Gilman placed 4th in 1:17.34, while junior Annabelle Mong followed with a 5th place finish in 1:24.56. Another standout moment came in the 100-yard Breaststroke, where Theriac claimed her second individual win of the meet in 1:03.39, breaking her own school record for the second time this season and improving on her previous best of 1:05.02. Natallia Davis added a major breakthrough, placing 5th in 1:30.97 after dropping an impressive 8.42 seconds from her lifetime best. The meet concluded with a strong finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, as Keelan Chappell, Danielle Gilman, Lylah Theriac, and Natallia Davis placed 2nd in 4:06.10. While Plainfield secured the team victory, Mooresville’s performance highlighted the program’s upward trajectory. With school records, All-American-level swims, and widespread personal-best improvements, the Pioneers showcased depth, development, and leadership that continue to drive the program forward as the championship season approaches.
