Mooresville Asserts Control in three team double dual Showdown

By Jon Theriac | Jan 20, 2026 9:39 PM

The Mooresville Pioneers turned a three team double dual into pure dominance, overpowering Decatur Central (119–6) and edging a strong Ben Davis squad (98–84) through depth, discipline, and momentum across the entire lineup. While Ben Davis defeated Decatur Central 146–5, the night belonged to Mooresville, whose balanced scoring and standout performances defined the meet from start to finish. Rather than relying on one event or one athlete, the Pioneers controlled the meet through relays, underclassmen breakthroughs, and veteran leadership, producing one of their most complete team efforts of the season. The meet began with immediate authority in the 200-yard Medley Relay, where Lylah Theriac, Keelan Chappell, Aleah Marine, and Isabella Henson combined for a 1st place finish in 2:03.33. The relay showcased Mooresville’s identity: experienced leadership at the front, young talent stepping confidently into key roles, and clean execution under pressure. That relay strength resurfaced later in the meet when Mooresville claimed both the 1st and 2nd positions in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, a decisive moment in the tight battle with Ben Davis. The quartet of Reese Aker, Aleah Marine, Natallia Davis, and Annabelle Mong touched 1st in 2:02.49, narrowly ahead of Isabella Henson, Grace Perry, Danielle Gilman, and Keelan Chappell at 2:02.71, flipping the momentum squarely in Mooresville’s favor. Senior captain Lylah Theriac set the competitive standard for the night. She dominated the 200-yard Individual Medley with a winning time of 2:06.79, then returned later to claim the 100-yard Butterfly in 57.43. Beyond the individual wins, Theriac’s impact was felt in relays and pacing, guiding a young roster through key moments in a closely contested meet. Mooresville’s success was fueled by athletes making significant jumps. Junior Danielle Gilman made a significant contribution, winning the 200-yard Freestyle (2:14.55) and the 100-yard Backstroke (1:15.72), while also contributing to a 2nd place relay. Junior Aleah Marine delivered a sprint double, winning both the 50-yard Freestyle (27.63) and the 100-yard Freestyle (1:01.62), while anchoring multiple relays. Her consistency provided crucial points in the battle with Ben Davis. The underclassmen delivered some of the most impressive improvements of the night. Freshman Reese Aker dropped 3.11 seconds in the 200 Free and nearly 2 seconds in the 100 Free, finishing in the top four in both events before opening the winning 400 Free Relay. Freshman Isabella Henson placed 4th in the IM while trimming her personal best and added strong relay swims. Freshman Natallia Davis contributed across sprints and relays, including a top three finish in the 50 Free. Sophomore Grace Perry added key points in both the 500 Free and backstroke events. Keelan Chappell delivered a strong 2nd place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, while Perry added another top four performance, helping Mooresville quietly build points through consistency rather than flash. The breaststroke events further reflected Mooresville’s depth, with Chappell placing 2nd and continuing to grow into her role as a reliable scorer. One of the meet’s most eye-catching performances came away from the pool. Mackenzie Pierson dominated the 1-meter, 11-dive event, posting a massive 446.40. She shattered her personal best by nearly 20 points, with two dives reaching All-American consideration, giving Mooresville an insurmountable advantage in the diving column. The night closed in similar fashion, as Aker, Gilman, Theriac, and Davis sealed the meet with a convincing win in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (4:09.98). This meet was not defined by a single race or a single athlete. It was defined by depth winning close events, underclassmen stepping into pressure roles, relays swinging momentum, and leaders delivering when it mattered most. With two decisive wins and contributions across the entire roster, the Mooresville Pioneers delivered a performance that reflected not just talent, but cohesion — a team growing stronger at the right time and positioning itself as a serious force.
