The Lady Pioneers Girls JV Basketball team returned to the court on Friday night to play their longest conference rival, the Plainfield Lady Quakers as part of Mooresville’s Homecoming celebration. The Quakers and the Pioneers are the last two remaining original Mid-State conference members from 1942. Coming into Varsity tonight's game, the two head coaches combine for over 950 wins between Mark Hurt (493 for Mooresville) and Curt Benge (471 for Plainfield) and both are expected to pass the 500 wins plateau next season. While the Varsity programs have set the standard for the schools over the decades, the JV programs have been very competitive during the time of Coach Hurt’s and Coach Benge’s tenure. Last season, the JV game between the two teams went into overtime with the Lady Pioneers defeating the Lady Quakers 52-48. With a tremendous effort in the first quarter, the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a double digit lead and never looked back. The Lady Pioneers were able to score 24 baskets on the evening primarily from their defensive effort against the Lady Quakers. The win for the Lady Pioneers gets the team back into the win column for the first time in three games. The JV team’s record bumps up to 11-6 (5-1 Mid-State) on the season. Leading the Pioneers in scoring was Esther Brimmage with 14 points. The Lady Quakers JV team will return to the basketball court Friday night as they host Decatur Central for their last game of the season. The Lady Pioneers JV team has a very active week next week as they are scheduled to play games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The first game of next week’s gauntlet will be at Northview. The JV game will start at 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity game will start around 7:30 p.m. Mooresville JV 28 11 6 10 55 Plainfield JV 0 0 0 0 0
