Mooresville’s victory over Cascade on Wednesday put the Lady Pioneers back into the winning column. The team looked to continue a late season winning streak when they traveled over to Whiteland High School on Friday night. The athletic directors for the Lady Pioneers and Lady Warriors have scheduled this last conference game for both teams at the end of the season for the past dozen years. This late conference game has added some interest in both Varsity and JV games. In 2022, the Varsity game determined the winner of the Mid-State Conference for Mooresville. Last season, the JV game resulted with the Lady Pioneers defeating the Lady Warriors, 27-6. The Lady Warriors JV team jumped out to a quick emotional lead that they hoped would just overwhelm the Lady Pioneers JV team. But the Pioneers held their ground, collected their poise and faced the Whiteland pressure straight on. By the end of the first quarter, that quick emotional lead for Whiteland was a six point deficit and that would grow to by the end of the first half. The game turned in favor for the Lady Pioneers when the Pioneers outscored the Warriors 16-6 in the third quarter and held a comfortable 33-16 lead after three quarters. The Pioneers would need that seventeen point lead as the fourth quarter became a chaotic race to the final buzzer. The Lady Warriors cut the Pioneer lead down to eight points with about 2:35 remaining in the game but they could get no closer than that. The Lady Pioneers finally scored their first basket in the fourth quarter at 2:10 remaining and took all the energy out of the Whiteland comeback effort. The 39-29 victory for the Lady Pioneers improves the team's record to 13-6 (6-1 Mid-State) on the season. Leading the Pioneers in scoring was Esther Brimmage with 12 points. Alicia Crawford played her best game of the season with 9 points. The Lady Warriors JV team has now ended their season with a solid record of double digit wins on the season. The Lady Pioneers JV team will have one more game at Northview before their season ends on Saturday afternoon. The JV game will start at 12:00 p.m. and the Varsity game will start around 1:30 p.m. Mooresville JV 12 5 16 6 39 Whiteland JV 6 4 6 13 29
