Pioneers Can’t Keep Pace With Rocks in Second Half

The Mooresville Pioneers and Westfield Rocks put on an entertaining show in the opening half as neither team was able to build a lead larger than six points. The game featured an up-and-down pace with both teams knocking down shots from the perimeter. Defensively, Mooresville did a solid job protecting the paint and forcing Westfield to rely on outside shooting, while the Rocks countered by pressuring the Pioneers and asking Mooresville’s underclassmen to step up and make big plays. At the break, Westfield held a slim two-point advantage. The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Westfield came out of halftime with focus and determination, using suffocating defense to limit the Pioneers to just five points in the period. That defensive pressure quickly turned into instant offense, allowing the Rocks to stretch the lead to 16 heading into the final frame. Westfield was able to sustain that momentum in the fourth quarter, maintaining control and closing out the game down the stretch. The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they head to Seymour on Saturday to take on the Owls. JV tips off at noon, with the varsity game to follow.
