Mooresville High School Athletic Department Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week February 2nd – February 7th The Mooresville High School Athletic Department is pleased to announce the Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week Award for the week of February 2nd – February 7th. The award will be given to student-athletes who displayed athletic excellence in all areas of competition during the previous week of athletic contests. Pendill Wealth Management is proud to recognize student athletes for their athletic achievements each week while supporting the Mooresville Athletic Department. The Mooresville Athletic Department is honored to partner with BJ Pendill to recognize the Mooresville High School student athlete of the week. Athlete of the Week: Girls Diving – Mackenzie Pierson - Junior This week’s Athlete of the Week is junior diver Mackenzie Pierson, whose discipline, consistency, and competitive excellence continue to separate her as one of the top divers in the state. Mackenzie’s approach - progress, not perfection - has been evident all season and was on full display during postseason competition. Mackenzie recently captured her second conference championship in three years, earning the 2026 Conference Title. She followed that with a dominant performance at Sectionals on Saturday, February 7, where she led the field from start to finish across all 11 dives. Competing against a field of 17 divers, Mackenzie finished 32 points ahead of second place and more than 100 points clear of third, never relinquishing the lead at any point in the meet. Her consistency has been remarkable. Over the past three weeks, Mackenzie has broken her personal record on 10 of her 11 dives and set a new 11-dive PR of 446, a score that would have won last year’s state championship. Even when facing competitors with higher degrees of difficulty, Mackenzie’s precision and composure allow her to separate herself through execution and reliability. Having started her diving journey at just eight years old, Mackenzie’s dedication to the sport has been years in the making. She now advances to Regionals, where the competition will be among the toughest in the state, yet her consistency and preparation position her well as she looks to earn another trip to the State Finals. Combined with her success in the classroom and her relentless work ethic, Mackenzie Pierson exemplifies what it means to be a Mooresville student-athlete and is a truly deserving Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week: Boys Swimming – Jacob Gainey - Senior This week’s Athlete of the Week is senior Jacob Gainey, whose impact on the Boys Swimming program extends far beyond titles or stat lines. While not serving as a team captain, Jacob consistently leads by example through his work ethic, accountability, and competitive standard, setting the tone for the entire team both in and out of the pool. Jacob’s daily approach to training - his attention to detail, focus on fundamentals, and commitment to doing the small things right - has made him a model for younger swimmers who look to him as an example. His consistency and professionalism create a standard that elevates everyone around him. At this past meet, Jacob’s performance played a key role in the team’s success. He delivered strong individual swims and provided stability and confidence by anchoring relays in high-pressure situations. His presence allowed the Pioneers to remain competitive across events and brought out the best in his teammates. More than just results, Jacob represents Mooresville Swimming with maturity, integrity, and competitiveness. His leadership through preparation and example makes him a truly deserving recipient of Athlete of the Week.
