Competing on Indiana’s biggest stage at the IHSAA State Championship, Senior and Captain Lylah Theriac delivered a remarkable performance, earning a 4th place finish in the 200-yard Individual Medley and a runner-up finish in the 100-yard Butterfly while rewriting the Mooresville record book once again. Junior Mackenzie Pierson also represented Mooresville in the 1-Meter Diving State Finals, battling through one of the deepest fields in the state. Theriac’s state meet began with a statement in Friday’s preliminaries. In the 200-yard Individual Medley, she swam a brilliant 1:59.66, breaking her own school record and clocking a personal best. The swim marked the second time she had gone under the two-minute barrier and secured her the second seed heading into Saturday night’s championship final. Against the fastest field in Indiana, Theriac proved she belonged among the state’s elite. In Saturday’s finals, Theriac battled through a highly competitive race and touched in 2:00.67 to finish 4th overall. While the final time was not quite as fast as her record-setting prelim swim, it was still a strong and composed performance against a stacked championship heat. Notably, Theriac competed in the same events at last year’s state meet, finishing 4th in the 200 IM (2:02.10) and 3rd in the 100 Butterfly (54.45). Her improvements this season reflect a year of growth, refinement, and determination. If there was any lingering fuel left after the IM final, Theriac turned it into fire in the 100-yard Butterfly. She entered the butterfly final seeded fourth after a strong preliminary swim. Following the IM, Theriac was determined to maximize her final opportunity on the state stage. That determination was evident from the opening stroke. In one of the most exciting races of the night, Theriac surged to a 53.18, finishing 2nd in the state by a mere touch while setting another school record and personal best. Her swim featured powerful underwater work, precise tempo, and a fearless closing 25. Dropping time in finals at the state meet is never easy—doing so after racing a demanding 200 IM final makes the performance even more impressive. By the end of the weekend, Theriac had once again elevated the Mooresville program: a school-record 1:59.66 in the 200 IM prelims, a 4th place IM finish, and a runner-up finish in the 100 Butterfly with a record-breaking 53.18. Two podium appearances. Two personal bests. Two new school records. Theriac will leave Mooresville having broken every school record and cementing her place as one of the most accomplished swimmers in program history. She will continue her academic and athletic career this fall at Indiana University Bloomington. On the diving side, Junior Mackenzie Pierson delivered an impressive performance in the 1-Meter Diving State Finals. Pierson entered the meet seeded 12th with a score of 409.80 and immediately made her presence known. After the first three rounds, she stood strong in 4th place among the state’s best. Although she slipped to 11th at the conclusion of preliminaries, Pierson responded with poise and determination in the semifinals. She opened the round confidently, earning scores of 8’s on her back dive pike and climbing to 8th place by the end of the semifinals. Battling head-to-head with the state’s top divers, Pierson advanced to the finals and finished 12th with a score of 399.80—an improvement from last year’s 13th-place finish. She concluded the meet with an overall score of 375.20, showcasing both her growth and her ability to compete at the highest level. Both Theriac and Pierson demonstrated resilience, composure, and competitive fire throughout the championship meet. On Indiana’s biggest stage, they represented Mooresville with pride proving that when the lights shine brightest, they rise to the occasion.
