Woodmen Make Plays Down The Stretch To Top The Pioneers

By Nate Bingham | Feb 21, 2026 8:26 AM

The Mooresville Pioneers traveled to Greenwood on Friday night and battled until the final possession but came up just short in a 60–56 loss. Mooresville opened the game with strong energy on both ends of the floor, executing offensively and limiting quality looks early to take a 12–8 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle as Greenwood found its rhythm offensively, using a strong stretch late in the half to outscore the Pioneers 20–15 and take a narrow lead into the locker room. Coming out of halftime, Greenwood continued its momentum in the third quarter. The Pioneers struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities, managing 10 points in the period while Greenwood extended its advantage by attacking the paint and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Trailing entering the fourth quarter, Mooresville responded with urgency. The Pioneers scored 19 points in the final frame, knocking down perimeter shots and tightening up defensively to cut the deficit to a single possession in the closing moments. Despite the late push, Greenwood was able to make enough plays down the stretch to secure the 60–56 victory. Mooresville shot the ball efficiently throughout the night, finishing at nearly 49 percent from the field and connecting on seven three-pointers. However, Greenwood’s edge on the glass and advantage in points in the paint proved to be the difference.
