Mooresville Girls Tennis Opens Season with 4-1 Win at Martinsville

Mooresville opened the 2026 girls tennis season on Tuesday afternoon with a strong road performance at Martinsville, as the Pioneers’ varsity earned a 4-1 victory over the Artesians. The JV squad battled to a 4-4 tie. In varsity singles play, Lyla Kaufman led the way at No. 1 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win. Sophomore Hailey Hoffman picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, while junior Maelyn Cooper secured a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. At doubles, Savannah Walker and Brooklyn Rawlins earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Martinsville claimed the only varsity point at No. 1 doubles, where Jacey Bell and Tori Shields fell 1-6, 0-6. The Pioneers also had a number of strong performances in JV action. Brooke Mitchell and Bailey Jones were double winners, posting 6-0 victories at both No. 1 JV doubles and No. 7 JV doubles. Zoey Saner and Elly Hughes won a close match at No. 2 JV doubles, 7-6 (7-5), and Maddi Garrison and Elly Hughes added a 6-2 win at No. 8 JV doubles. JV losses came from Brynn Ramseyer and Maddi Garrison at No. 3 doubles, 1-6; ReAnna Scurry and EmaKate Fox at No. 4 doubles, 3-6; Mila Schultze and Amelia Lindsey-Turnmire at No. 5 doubles, 2-6; and Alexis Williams and Ambyrlin Blakely at No. 6 doubles, 2-6. With the win, the Mooresville varsity improves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-State Conference. The JV team now stands at 0-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. Mooresville returns to action on Saturday, April 11, at the Lawrence Central Invitational. The Pioneers will open play at 10:00 a.m. against Decatur Central and will also face Lutheran and Lawrence Central.
