By Mike Teders | Apr 11, 2026 9:43 PM

The Mooresville High School girls tennis team traveled to Lawrence Central High School on Saturday to compete in the Lawrence Central Invitational—and came away as champions with an impressive 3-0 performance on the day. In the opening round, the Pioneers defeated Decatur Central by a score of 4-1. Mooresville followed that with another strong 4-1 victory over host Lawrence Central in the second round. In the championship match, the Pioneers completed their dominant run with a decisive 5-0 win over Indianapolis Lutheran. The success was a true team effort, as every varsity player contributed to the victory. Lyla Kaufman, Maelyn Cooper, Hailey Hoffman, Jacey Bell, Tori Shields, Brooklyn Rawlins, and Savannah Walker each earned at least one win during the invitational. In junior varsity action, Brooke Mitchell, Katie Taylor, Bailey Jones, and Ellie Hughes each recorded wins in the Pioneers’ matchup against Decatur Central. With the championship performance, the varsity team improves to 4-0 on the season, while the junior varsity moves to 1-0-1. Mooresville will return to action on Monday, April 13, when the Pioneers host Danville in their first home match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
