Pioneers Stay Unbeaten with 4-1 Home Win Over Danville

The Mooresville Girls Tennis Team opened the home portion of its season Monday afternoon with a match against the Danville Warriors. The Pioneers’ varsity earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory, while Danville claimed the JV match by a score of 6-1. Picking up wins for the varsity were Lyla Kaufman at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2; Hailey Hoffman at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3; Jacey Bell and Tori Shields at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-4; and Savannah Walker and Brooklyn Rawlins at No. 2 doubles, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 15-13. At No. 2 singles, Maelyn Cooper battled through a tremendous match before falling 4-6, 7-6, 6-10. For the JV, the Pioneers’ lone point came from the No. 1 doubles team of Brooke Mitchell and Bailey Jones, who earned an 8-5 victory. With the win, the varsity improved to 5-0 on the season, while the JV now stands at 1-1-1. Mooresville returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14, when the Pioneers travel to Decatur Central for a 5:30 p.m. Mid-State Conference matchup.
