Mooresville Girls Tennis Improves to 6-0 with Win at Decatur Central

The Mooresville Girls Tennis Team traveled to Decatur Central on Tuesday afternoon for a Mid-State Conference matchup. After a short rain delay, the Pioneers earned a 4-1 varsity victory and a 9-4 JV win. With the win, the varsity improved to 6-0 on the season. That marks the best start for a Mooresville girls tennis team in the last 25 years. For the varsity, Lyla Kaufman won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Maelyn Cooper battled hard but fell 1-6, 3-6. Hailey Hoffman picked up a win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-5. In doubles play, Jacey Bell and Tori Shields won at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, 6-2, while Savannah Walker and Brooklyn Rawlins won at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 6-4. In JV action, the Pioneers were led by Brooke Mitchell and Katie Taylor at No. 1 JV doubles with a 6-2 win. Zoey Saner and ReAnna Scurry won 6-3 at No. 2 JV doubles. EmaKate Fox and Mila Schultze won 6-3 at No. 5 JV doubles. Bailey Jones and Katie Taylor won 6-0 at No. 6 JV doubles. Brooke Mitchell and Zoey Saner won 6-0 at No. 7 JV doubles. ReAnna Scurry and Alexis Williams won 6-1 at No. 8 JV doubles. Elly Hughes and Maddi Garrison won 6-0 at No. 9 JV doubles. Amelia Lindsey-Turnmire and Ambyrlin Blakely won 6-2 at No. 10 JV doubles, and Bailey Jones and Zoey Saner won 6-0 at No. 11 JV doubles. For the season, the varsity now stands at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Mid-State Conference play. The JV is 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference matches. The Mooresville Girls Tennis Team returns to action on Thursday, April 16, when the Pioneers host Indian Creek at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference match.
