Mooresville Girls Tennis Sweeps Speedway, Improves to 7-1

The Mooresville High School girls tennis team traveled to Speedway this afternoon and came away with a pair of victories, defeating the Sparkplugs 5-0 at the varsity level and 3-0 in JV play. With the win, the varsity improved to 7-1 overall on the season, while the JV moved to 3-2-1. At varsity singles, Lyla Kaufman posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, Maelyn Cooper earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, and Hailey Hoffman battled to a 6-2, 7-6 (12-10) win at No. 3 singles. In doubles action, Jacey Bell and Tori Shields won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Brooklyn Rawlins and Savannah Walker captured a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. In JV action, Bailey Jones won 6-0 at No. 1 JV singles. At No. 1 JV doubles, Katie Taylor and Brooke Mitchell earned a 6-3 win, while ReAnna Scurry and Zoey Saner added a 6-4 victory at No. 2 JV doubles. The tennis team returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21, when the Pioneers host Perry Meridian in a Mid-State Conference match. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., with introductions beginning at 4:50 p.m. at the Pioneers’ courts.
