The Mooresville High School girls tennis team had a strong showing on the road this afternoon, earning a 4–1 varsity victory and a 5–1 JV win over Southport High School in a non-conference matchup. On the varsity side, Jacey Bell and Tori Shields set the tone early with a dominant 6–0, 6–0 win at #1 doubles. Lyla Kaufman followed with a convincing 6–1, 6–1 victory at #1 singles. Savannah Walker picked up her first varsity singles win at #3 with a 6–2, 6–4 result, while Hailey Hoffman and Brooklyn Rawlins sealed the team scoring with a 6–3, 6–4 win at #2 doubles. Maelyn Cooper battled at #2 singles but came up short, falling 4–6, 0–6. The JV squad also performed well across the board. Katie Taylor and Brook Mitchell won 6–1 at #1 doubles, while Bailey Jones and Zoey Saner matched that score at #2. Elly Hughes and ReAnna Scurry delivered a shutout 6–0 win at #3, and EmaKate Fox with Mila Schultze edged out a 7–5 victory at #4. Ambrylin Blakely and Amelia Lindsey Turnmire dropped their match 1–6 at #5, but Alexis Williams and Elly Hughes closed things out with a 6–1 win at #6. With the results, the varsity improves to 8–2 on the season, and the JV moves to 4–3–1. The team is right back in action tomorrow, Thursday, April 23, hosting Whiteland Community High School in a conference matchup at the MHS courts. Play begins at 5:30 pm, with introductions scheduled for 5:15 pm, as the Pioneers look to cap off a demanding stretch of four matches in four days on a high note.
