Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Baseball Thursday Night Final Mooresville- 8 Southport- 7 The Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Baseball Team had a short turn around time after suffering their first loss of the season on Wednesday to Perry Meridian (5-4). On Thursday evening the Pioneers returned to Holder Field, site of Wednesday's game to take on the Southport Cardinals in a non conference contest. Mooresville took an early two run lead in the top of the third but gave up four in the bottom half of the inning to trail 4-2 after three innings. The Pioneers offense answered to call in the top of the fourth and plated four runs and did not look back to record their seventh win, 8-7. Kiernan Herald got the start on the mound for the Pioneers, Herald went 5.2 innings allowed 7 hits, 7 earned runs, walked 3, and stuck out 7 to record his first win of the 2026 season. Nate Daley releived Herald in the sixth inning with 2 outs. Daley faced 2 batters in the sixth, walked 1, and struck out 1 to get the Pioneers out of the inning holding onto a one run lead. Freshman right hander Levi Welty entered the game in the seventh inning with the Pioneers up 8-7. Welty hit the first batter of the inning then proceeded to strike out the next three Cardinals to record the save and preserve the Mooresville Pioneers win. The Pioneers offense was paced by Brody McGaha and Nate Daley who both tallied 3 hits apiece including 2 doubles by McGaha. Adam Biddle and Caden Lee added 2 hits apiece with Biddle hitting his second homerun of the season. With the win on Thursday, the Pioneers improve to 7-1 (5-1 MSC) and will travel to Jasper Indiana Saturday April 25th to participate in the Jasper Invitational. Teams included in this weekends Jasper Invitational include the Jasper Wildcats, DeKalb Barons, Martinsville Artesians, and the Mooresville Pioneers. Mooresville will take on DeKalb in game one Saturday @ 1:00pm (eastern).
