The Mooresville High School girls tennis team hosted Franklin Community on Wednesday afternoon in a Mid-State Conference matchup. Despite strong efforts, Franklin came out on top, sweeping the varsity match 7-0 and winning the JV contest 7-1. At the varsity level, Savannah Walker at No. 4 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Katie Taylor and Brooke Mitchell delivered standout performances. Walker battled through two tightly contested sets but came up just short, while Taylor and Mitchell pushed their match to a third-set super tiebreaker before narrowly falling. The rest of the Pioneer lineup competed hard but couldn’t close the gap against the state-ranked Grizzly Cubs. For the JV squad, ReAnna Scurry and Alexis Williams secured Mooresville’s lone victory at No. 8 doubles. Both teams demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the match. With the loss, the varsity team moves to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the JV squad stands at 4-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference. The team will now take advantage of some well-earned rest and practice time before returning to action on Tuesday, May 5, when they host Greenwood in another Mid-State Conference match. The evening will also feature Teacher Appreciation Night, during which players will recognize special teachers during pre-match introductions. Introductions are scheduled for 5:15 p.m., with matches beginning at 5:30 p.m.
