By Mike Teders | May 7, 2026 9:40 PM

The MHS girls tennis team hosted Greenwood this afternoon in a Mid-State Conference match. The Woodmen came away with a 4-1 win at the varsity level and a 6-2 victory in the JV match. Today also served as Teacher Appreciation Day at the courts. The team would like to thank all of the teachers who came out to support the athletes and program. The players and coaches greatly appreciate the hard work, dedication, and support that MHS teachers provide to students each day. For the Pioneers, the lone varsity win came at #1 singles where Lyla Kaufman continued her strong season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In JV action, the Pioneers picked up wins at #6 JV doubles where Brooke Mitchell and Elly Hughes earned a 6-2 win. At #8 JV doubles, Alex Williams and Ambrylin Blakely also came away with a victory 6-3. With the loss, the Pioneers’ varsity record moved to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in Mid-State Conference play. The JV record fell to 4-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference action. The team returns to action on Saturday, May 9th when they host Heritage Christian for a non-conference match beginning at 10 a.m. Introductions are scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
